Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief, Vijay, a former actor, is leading in the Tiruchirappalli East Assembly constituency by 1,669 votes at the end of the first counting round for the Tamil Nadu assembly elections. Contesting from both Tiruchirappalli East and Perambur, Vijay's political debut has intensified the state election scenario.

TVK is vying for elections independently against the NDA alliance spearheaded by AIADMK and BJP. The DMK-led alliance, including Congress, aims to maintain its rule. DMK candidate Inigo Irudayaraj is trailing behind in the initial counting phase.

TVK's entry has turned the Tamil Nadu polls triangular, historically dominated by DMK and AIADMK alliances. Notably, fifteen TVK candidates show an early lead, spotlighting prominent figures such as G Ramamoorthi, Senthil Kumar N, Saravanan G, and Sathish Christopher in diverse constituencies.

Supporters gathered outside TVK headquarters as the election count for Tamil Nadu's 234 Assembly constituencies began under stringent security. The count started with postal ballots at 8:00 am, shifting to electronic votes by 8:30 am, with results being updated in real-time online.

Despite predictable narratives post-exit polls, the ruling DMK alliance is expected to prevail, bolstered by strong turnout and optimistic predictions. The election results will concern several states and a union territory, with West Bengal awaiting its second polling phase.

Early postal vote counting at Queen Mary's College indicates a slight early lead for DMK. Key tallies show DMK ahead at several locations, but TVK holds a visible presence, ensuring a tight race.
