The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) spokesperson, Kanimozhi NVN Somu, commented on Monday about Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam's (TVK) unexpected early lead during its election debut, suggesting that the surge is largely driven by the fan following of actor-turned-politician Vijay. Despite the surprising early trends, she remains optimistic that DMK will secure a substantial number of seats.

As the polls progress to determine the makeup of Tamil Nadu's 234-seat assembly, the Election Commission of India reports TVK leading in 104 seats. The influence of Vijay's cinematic followers seems significant, continuing the state's tradition of successful transitions from cinema to politics. However, the critical question remains the extent of TVK's impact on the vote share.

TVK, led by Vijay, contests without alliances, against the AIADMK and BJP's NDA alliance. Their main rival, the DMK alliance, which includes Congress, seeks to maintain its governmental hold. Inigo Irudayaraj, DMK's candidate, trails behind according to initial counts. As counting proceeds across India, TVK's debut has reshaped the electoral landscape in traditionally DMK and AIADMK dominated Tamil Nadu.
