Norway Expands Oil Exploration Horizon with New Licensing Blocks
Norway is offering 70 new oil and gas exploration blocks in its annual licensing round, aiming to sustain its petroleum industry. Areas include the Barents, Norwegian, and North Seas. Additionally, ConocoPhillips' plan to reopen three fields has been approved, projecting investments of 19 billion Norwegian crowns.
Norway's government announced on Tuesday the offering of 70 new blocks for oil and gas exploration as part of its annual licensing round.
The initiative aims to extend the life of Norway's petroleum industry, offering 38 areas in the Barents Sea, 10 in the Norwegian Sea, and 22 in the North Sea. Applications are due by September 1, with awards slated for early 2027.
Additionally, the energy ministry approved a development plan from ConocoPhillips and partners to reopen the Albuskjell, Vest Ekofisk, and Tommeliten Gamma fields, anticipating investments totaling 19 billion Norwegian crowns, with production expected to start by 2028 and continue until 2048.
