Andhra Pradesh's Strategic Move to Counter Gunny Bag Scarcity

Andhra Pradesh Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar announced plans for discussions with the central government to solve the issue of gunny bag scarcity during paddy procurement seasons. The state achieved record procurement, crediting Rs 4,600 crore to 1.9 lakh farmers. The government also focuses on improving LPG supply and monitoring fuel stocks.

Andhra Pradesh Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar highlighted the state's efforts to solve the recurring gunny bag scarcity during paddy procurement. He announced that discussions will soon be initiated with the central government to find a lasting solution. The state achieved a record paddy procurement this Rabi season.

The procurement drive saw Rs 4,600 crore credited into the accounts of 1.9 lakh farmers within 24 hours. The minister emphasized the successful procurement strategy, noting an 18% increase from last year and 57% from the previous government’s tenure. The programme included procurement of boiled rice aiding farmers cultivating Bondalu variety.

Additionally, Manohar described efforts to address logistics such as the deployment of GPS-fitted vehicles and improving LPG supply. He reported strict action against irregularities by gas distributors and assured that fuel stocks remain sufficient across the state with ongoing monitoring to ensure uninterrupted supply.
