Tamil Nadu Assembly Confidence Vote: TVK Secures Majority with Cross-party Backing

The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government in Tamil Nadu, led by Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, has secured the majority in the State Assembly after gaining support from Congress, CPI(M), VCK, and other parties. The coalition now holds 121 seats, surpassing the majority threshold amid promises of policies and support against BJP influence.

In a decisive move in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government, headed by Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, garnered critical support from Congress, CPI(M), and VCK MLAs as the House discussed the Vote of Confidence motion on Wednesday. Additionally, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), with its two representatives, has thrown its weight behind the nascent government.

The assembly saw an unexpected turn as the expelled Amma Makkal Munnettra Kazagam (AMMK) MLA Kamaraj pledged allegiance to TVK, reaffirming his loyalty to Chief Minister Vijay. "I supported the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam government yesterday, I support it today, and I will continue to support it for the next five years," Kamaraj asserted, emphasizing his belief in CM Vijay's leadership.

With TVK holding 107 seats, the addition of Congress's five seats, and two seats each from CPI and CPI(M), VCK, and IUML, bolstered the coalition to 121 seats, firmly crossing the majority line. The assembly's floor test could mark a turning point, with allies urging the government to address state rights and social issues, highlighted by VCK MLA Vanni Arasu's call for proactive governance.
