The West Bengal government, following its recent election, declared that all unauthorized toll gates and barricades would be shut immediately. Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Agarwal instructed district officials to identify and dismantle these illegal structures and prepare comprehensive records of both legitimate and illicit toll collection centers by May 15.
This move is one of Agarwal's initial actions since taking office as Chief Secretary. His appointment sparked controversy, given his prior role managing the state's electoral process, leading to suggestions of a favorable treatment towards the BJP. The opposition alleges that his elevation is a 'reward' for the BJP's electoral victory.
TMC MP Saugata Roy expressed skepticism over the transparency of Agarwal’s recent appointment, questioning his promotion following the BJP's success in the elections. Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition, accused the BJP and Election Commission of collusion, citing the significant shift in the state's political landscape following BJP's assembly win.
