Sunkonnect, a leading player in renewable energy management consulting, unveiled an ambitious plan to cut carbon emissions in India's burgeoning event and exhibition industry. The firm aims to reduce emissions by 9.6 lakh tonnes annually, highlighting the sector's massive growth and environmental impact.
The Indian event industry, projected to touch USD 14.3 billion in 2024, is growing at a CAGR of 7.6 percent. However, its expansion comes with a concerning rise in carbon emissions, particularly from travel, which can contribute up to 90% of an event's carbon output.
Sunkonnect's initiative, which aims at a 5 percent reduction of the industry's carbon footprint over the next five years, involves managing 1,200 major events annually by 2028. Founder Avishek Kumar emphasized the necessity of targeted action and collaboration, particularly with MSMEs, to turn sustainability into a strategic edge.
