Ukraine Strikes Back: Energy Infrastructure Under Fire
Ukraine's military confirmed attacks on key Russian energy facilities, including oil terminals and a refinery, as it resumes targeting energy infrastructure. The strikes, aimed at weakening Russia’s financial support for its ongoing war efforts, sparked fires but have faltered a short-lived ceasefire.
Ukraine's military announced renewed assaults on Russian energy targets, hitting an oil terminal, a refinery, and a gas processing plant. These moves mark Kyiv's escalating campaign against energy infrastructure amid the ongoing conflict.
The Ukrainian attacks specifically targeted the Tamanneftegas terminal in Krasnodar and a gas plant in Astrakhan, both located in southern Russia, according to Ukraine's General Staff and drone forces commander Robert Brovdi. The strikes led to fires at the reservoir sites.
Additionally, an oil refinery in Yaroslavl, northeast of Moscow, was struck, damaging primary refinery units. This strategic targeting of Russian oil facilities comes as Moscow relies on its hydrocarbon revenue to fund its military actions in Ukraine, now stretching into a fifth year.
