In a significant legal development, BJP MP Yogendra Chandolia has been exonerated from a 2020 criminal case by the Rouse Avenue Court. The case revolved around accusations of obstructing a public servant and using criminal force to deter him from his duty. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Neha Mittal issued the discharge order on May 15, citing established legal precedent that prohibits the selective splitting of offenses within a single legal case.

The case dates back to October 7, 2020, when Chandolia was accused of obstructing a traffic head constable in the Tank Road area of Karol Bagh. According to the FIR, Chandolia confronted the officer and allegedly tried to incite a crowd. Despite earlier rulings framing charges against him, Chandolia's legal team argued the charges were neither factually nor legally sustainable and highlighted deficiencies in the investigation, such as the lack of eyewitness accounts and supporting evidence.

Chandolia's discharge comes as a relief, marking a reversal from previous judicial findings. ACJM Mittal's decision underscores the shortcomings of the prosecution's case, pointing to key evidentiary gaps. The ruling effectively sets aside past orders that sought to frame charges, emphasizing that the evidence presented was insufficient to proceed against the sitting Member of Parliament.
