Shimla Police's vigorous campaign against drug trafficking has led to the arrest of significant players in several inter-state networks, including key suppliers from Chandigarh and Punjab, senior officials announced on Saturday.

During a press conference, Additional Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhishek highlighted the department's focus on 'backward linkages' under the NDPS Act to dismantle drug trafficking networks comprehensively.

The recent breakthrough involved the registration of a case at Dhalli Police Station on May 13, where 11 grams of heroin were seized from two accused, unmasking a broader supply chain leading back to Chandigarh.

In parallel, a separate operation at Rampur Police Station on May 9 resulted in the arrest of three individuals with heroin and syringes in possession, ultimately revealing a supplier based in Amritsar.

These operations, reflecting a strategic shift in NDPS probes, have led to the arrest of 37 individuals this year, a substantial increase from previous numbers, thanks to enhanced investigation measures that include digital evidence analysis and financial scrutiny.

The crackdown has unsettling effects on narcotic supply chains across states such as Punjab, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh, weakening organized drug operations, Police stated, with the Shimla district promising sustained stringent actions against drug trafficking.
