Russian President Vladimir Putin is gearing up for a significant diplomatic visit to China, where discussions with President Xi Jinping will encompass all areas of bilateral relations. A key highlight of this meeting is the proposed Power of Siberia 2 gas pipeline, a project aimed at amplifying energy cooperation between Russia and China.

The Power of Siberia 2, which has been under discussion for some time, could potentially transport an additional 50 billion cubic metres of gas annually from Russia's Arctic gas fields, traversing Mongolia to China. Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov emphasized that the growing closeness between Moscow and Beijing remains crucial amidst global crises, as evidenced by a substantive increase in Russian oil exports to China.

Putin's upcoming visit to China follows closely on the heels of the recent visit by U.S. President Donald Trump. However, according to Ushakov, the timing of these high-profile visits is purely coincidental and does not imply any strategic signaling between these global powers.
