Girl gangraped in Jharkhand's Palamu, main culprit arrested

A 15-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped in Jharkhand's Palamu district after being intercepted by three youths in a car while returning from a paddy field.

A girl was allegedly gang-raped in Jharkhand's Palamu district, a police officer said on Tuesday.

The girl was returning home from paddy field on Sunday evening when three accused in a car intercepted her and committed the crime, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Hussainabad) Divyansh Shukla told PTI.

The incident was reported to police on Tuesday, the SDPO said, adding that the police arrested the main culprit in swift action while a massive hunt was on to apprehend two other perpetrators reported at large.

The victim's mother registered the case after the girl around 15 years old, narrated the ordeal on her return home, he said.

As per the FIR, the girl was returning home from paddy field on Sunday evening when three youths of the vicinity caught hold of her and forced her into the car and raped her, the SDPO said.

The next day, the accused also threatened the girl over the phone not to inform the police and warned of dire consequences, police said.

Based on the registration number of the car, the police launched a hunt to track down other culprits.

The victim has been sent for a medical check-up.

Police have identified the two culprits reported absconding, the officer added.
