Two brothers buried alive while retrieving water pump from well in Rajasthan

Jaipur, May 23 PTI Two brothers died after being buried under sand inside a 40-foot-deep well in Rajasthans Karauli district on Saturday, police said.The incident occurred in Amargarh village in the Sapotra area when the brothers were attempting to retrieve a water pump from an old well.

Jaipur, May 23 (PTI): Two brothers died after being buried under sand inside a 40-foot-deep well in Rajasthan's Karauli district on Saturday, police said.

The incident occurred in Amargarh village in the Sapotra area when the brothers were attempting to retrieve a water pump from an old well. During the process, the sand caved in, trapping both men.

According to police, the deceased have been identified as Kamlesh (32) and Mukesh (35), residents of Amargarh village. They had reportedly been digging the well for the past few days to reach the buried motor pump.

Sapotra Station House Officer Abhijeet Kumar said the incident occurred when the walls of the well suddenly collapsed, burying both men under debris.

Villagers rushed to the spot and carried out a rescue efforts for nearly two-and-a-half hours before official teams arrived. Later, civil defence personnel, police, and administrative officials also joined the efforts.

After prolonged efforts, both men were pulled out and taken to Sapotra hospital, where doctors declared them dead.

Officials, including the SDM and tehsildar, reached the spot and urged people to stay away from the area while an inquiry into the incident is underway.
