A 50-year-old farmer died after a tree collapsed on him amid strong winds and heavy rains in Maharashtra's Beed district, police said on Sunday.

A severe spell of unseasonal rain accompanied by strong winds and lightning wreaked havoc in parts of Kaij tehsil on Saturday evening, they said.

Digambar Bhimrao Sasane, a resident of Soni Javala, was killed when a tree collapsed on him around 7.30 pm, an official said.

The sudden storm also damaged standing crops and uprooted trees, with farmers reporting significant losses.
