In a significant crackdown, the Government Railway Police (GRP) alongside the Railway Protection Force (RPF) seized hawala money amounting to Rs 1.22 crore on the Devagiri Express, traveling from Mumbai to Hyderabad. The arrest was effectuated following a joint operational check at around 3 pm on May 26, authorities confirmed.

The accused, identified as Vijay Ambadas Gupta, 40, hailing from Brundavan Colony, Maharashtra, was intercepted between Bollaram and Malkajgiri railway stations, transporting a suspicious luggage bag. During interrogation, Gupta revealed the money was handed to him by a certain 'Santosh Seth', who operates 'Kantha Jewellery' in Mumbai. Gupta was instructed to deliver the funds to 'Banti', linked to a jewellery shop in Secunderabad's Monda Market.

The police recovered Rs 1.22 crore in various denominations, yet Gupta was unable to substantiate the legality of the cash. The operation was spearheaded by B. Saieashwar Goud, under coordination with the Railway Protection Force officials and senior authority oversight. IGP of Railway and Road Safety, K.
