A man carrying Rs 1.22 crore in cash was apprehended during a train journey from Mumbai to Hyderabad, reportedly for transporting hawala money. The Government Railway Police (GRP) in Secunderabad seized the funds on Tuesday during a joint inspection with Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel.
The cash, allegedly linked to a jewellery business, was intercepted on the Devagiri Express between Bollaram and Malkajgiri stations. Authorities became suspicious when the man, from Maharashtra's Amaravati district, failed to produce documentation for the money. He claimed he was instructed by a Mumbai jeweller to deliver the cash to Secunderabad, receiving Rs 5,000 for his role.
The man admitted receiving the amount from a jeweller in Mumbai, intending to transfer it to another jewellery store owner at Monda Market, Secunderabad. However, he could not account for the funds or provide legal papers at the time of his arrest. The GRP has since confiscated the entire sum.
