Two elderly women were discovered dead inside a residence in New Rajinder Nagar, Central Delhi, police reported on Thursday morning. The unsettling discovery was made following reports of a foul odor emanating from the home, identified as House No. R-852. A maid, absent for two days, alerted authorities to the situation around 10:30 AM.
Upon arrival, police investigators found the women, Chandra Kanta and Saroj Bala, both approximately 80 years old, unresponsive inside a room. One lay on the bed and the other on the floor, with a foul stench permeating the premises. Entry was gained by breaking the gate as there were no signs of forced intrusion, ransacking, or disturbance within the house, which has four entrances.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that the women had cohabited for an extended period, with Saroj Bala remaining unmarried and Chandra Kanta being her sister-in-law. A police source noted that one woman had asthma. The Crime Team, Forensic Science Laboratory, and emergency medical services examined the scene. They confirmed both women were deceased, finding no external injuries. Police stated no foul play has been detected, although investigations continue. The bodies were sent for post-mortem analysis under Section 194 of BNSS, and legal steps will follow based on the results.
