Northwest India Braces for Cooler Temperatures and Storms

The India Meteorological Department forecasts a decline in heatwave conditions across Northwest India as temperatures are set to drop due to incoming western disturbances and easterly winds. This shift will bring storms and high winds, bringing temperatures down by up to 10 degrees Celsius in affected areas.

In a significant weather shift, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) anticipates a reprieve from the intense heatwave plaguing Northwest India, forecasting lower temperatures over the next three days. The anticipated relief comes as western disturbances and easterly winds move across the region, promising thunderstorms, strong winds, and even hailstorms in some locales.

IMD scientist Akhil Srivastava discussed the projections with ANI, noting that temperatures in Northwest India have consistently exceeded 45 degrees Celsius. Srivastava emphasized that the upcoming Western Disturbance, along with easterly winds, will likely spur storm activity from the Western Himalayan region to the adjoining plains, leading to a welcome drop in maximum temperatures.

Expected to decline by 5 to 10 degrees Celsius between May 28 and May 30, temperatures in northern and central states such as Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh are forecasted to provide relief from the swelter. However, Srivastava warned of possible intense weather conditions, including wind speeds reaching up to 100 kilometers per hour in certain parts of Uttar Pradesh.
