TMC's Abhishek Banerjee Vows Justice Amid Unabated Post-Poll Violence in Bengal

Amid accusations of BJP-backed vandalism and intimidation, Banerjee condemns the targeting of Adivasi icons. With numerous arrests, police claim progress in restoring order while ensuring essential security protocols.

Abhishek Banerjee, the Trinamool National Congress (TMC) general secretary, plans to meet with families affected by post-election violence in West Bengal. The party alleges ongoing violence, claiming BJP supporters vandalized a district party office, destroyed surveillance equipment, and intimidated local MLAs, hindering any police involvement.

Highlighting another incident, Banerjee stated that statues of Sidhu and Kanhu Murmu, figures iconic in the Santhal Rebellion, were desecrated. He criticized the attack as a provocative measure against Adivasi pride and urged that those responsible must face justice, as he decries the purported silence of those advocating for tribal welfare.

In response to the unrest, Kolkata Director Police Commissioner Siddh Nath Gupta reported over 300 arrests, including specific and preventive detentions, stabilizing the situation. Gupta clarified adjustments in security measures, emphasizing the retention of essential Z+ security to ensure safety during these turbulent times.
