In a somber tribute, residents of Jammu and Kashmir marked the martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed Bhagat Amarnath, the revered social reformer hailed as the 'Ambedkar of Jammu and Kashmir'. His contributions to securing reservation rights for marginalized communities remain a significant milestone in the region's history.

Scores of family members, local residents, social activists, and admirers convened at his birthplace, Champa village in Ramban district, to honor Shaheed Bhagat Amarnath's enduring legacy. As the Ramban District President of the Shaheed Bhagat Amarnath Trust, Prithviraj Bhagat, recounted, Amarnath's hunger strike in 1970 drew attention to the plight of the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes.

Amarnath's sacrifice paved the way for reservation benefits in education, government jobs, and political representation within the Union Territory. His great-granddaughter, Sandhya Bhagat, emphasized the profound impact of his selfless struggle, noting how his activism led to social justice reforms that uplifted countless lives across Jammu and Kashmir.
