In a decisive move towards bolstering urban governance, Delhi's Lieutenant Governor, Sardar TS Sandhu, conducted a high-level review meeting with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Thursday. The primary focus was to formulate a robust action plan targeting unauthorized constructions and enhancing civic infrastructure across the capital.

The meeting underscored the need for a stringent regulatory framework to ensure strict enforcement of building bylaws. The LG called for prompt action on unauthorized constructions, emphasizing a strategy that mandates their detection and demolition within a defined timeframe. An accountability mechanism is to be put in place, holding municipal officers responsible for overseeing compliance in their areas.

Amid discussions on unauthorized structural expansions, the meeting also reviewed civic priorities like monsoon preparedness, featuring the desilting and maintenance of stormwater drains, alongside aggressive initiatives for sanitation and dust mitigation. These efforts aim to address both immediate needs and long-term urban challenges, with completion deadlines set before the onset of the monsoon.
