A Rouse Avenue court on Saturday handed down a verdict that convicted Bihar's Sahibganj BJP MLA Raju Kumar Singh for culpable homicide not amounting to murder as well as violations of the Arms Act. The political figure was immediately ordered into custody, while his wife and two others named in the case were acquitted.

The ruling pertains to the tragic death of Archana Gupta, who succumbed to a gunshot wound during a New Year's Eve party on December 31, 2018. An FIR was registered the following day at the Fatehpur Beri Police Station. Special Judge Vishal Gogne found Raju Singh guilty under Section 304 Part 2 and the Arms Act.

The case involved allegations that Singh and others fired celebratory shots into the air, leading to Gupta's fatal injuries. Arguments on sentencing are scheduled for June 9. Initial charges against Singh and co-accused were framed after the court found sufficient evidence to proceed.
