Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra launched a scathing attack on her party's rebel faction, labeling them 'traitors' as tensions rise following the party's electoral defeat in West Bengal. Moitra asserted that the rebels could not form a separate faction without merging with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), referencing a decisive court ruling on similar matters.
In a post on X, Moitra highlighted the legal requirement for defectors to have two-thirds of the party's MPs to avoid disqualification, a number she claims they have not reached. She specifically referred to a Supreme Court decision in Subhash Desai vs. Principal Secretary, Governor of Maharashtra (2023) to back up her stance.
Moitra's remarks came amid reports suggesting discontent within TMC, with some MPs allegedly inclined towards supporting the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). She challenged these MPs, urging them to resign and contest under BJP's banner if they felt no loyalty to the TMC's mandate from the 2024 elections.
