In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, a joint operation by Sirsa Police and Rajasthan Police resulted in the seizure of nearly 89 kg of opium, valued at approximately ₹4.50 crore, and the arrest of a truck driver involved in the illegal consignment.
The interdiction took place as officers conducted a routine vehicle inspection near a toll plaza on NH-9, uncovering concealed compartments ingeniously welded into the truck's framework. This meticulous search led to the discovery and confiscation of 95 packets of opium. Additionally, the police seized ₹40,000 in cash from the suspect.
The apprehended individual has been identified as Kishna Ram from Rajasthan. Investigations suggest the opium originated from the Siliguri region in West Bengal, destined for Jodhpur. With the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act invoked, efforts are underway to dismantle the broader trafficking network.
Haryana's Director General of Police, Ajay Singhal, lauded the operation as a considerable victory against drug networks and emphasized the commitment to dismantling narcotics ecosystems under the state’s zero-tolerance policy towards drugs.
