A tragic accident unfolded on the Kedarnath trek in Uttarakhand's Rudraprayag district, where two pilgrims plunged into a deep gorge while descending via an unauthorised shortcut. One of the pilgrims died, while the other sustained serious injuries, officials reported on Wednesday.
The District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC) reported that the mishap occurred between Pole Numbers 337 and 340 on the Kedarnath pedestrian path. Immediate action was taken upon receiving the distress call, with rescue teams from the Sector Officer's office at Badi Lincholi, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), YMF personnel, and police quickly dispatched to the scene.
Rescue efforts led to the recovery and treatment of Mohit, 27, from Delhi, who suffered a leg fracture. Unfortunately, Priyanshu Shukla, 27, from Uttar Pradesh, was pronounced dead upon reaching the Medical Relief Point. This incident coincides with other challenges pilgrims face, including illnesses from high altitudes and adverse weather, necessitating airlifts and advanced medical interventions.
