Delhi-NCR enjoyed a brief reprieve from scorching temperatures as light rainfall graced the region on Tuesday morning, bringing relief to residents. The rain, which fell across several areas including the vicinity of the Indira Gandhi International Airport, provided a welcome break from the oppressive heatwave gripping the national capital.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that temperatures, which had reached uncomfortable highs, are likely to fluctuate in the coming days. The anticipated maximum temperatures were projected between 37°C and 39°C, with lows from 26°C to 28°C. Southwesterly winds are expected to dominate, maintaining speeds of 10-15 kmph throughout the day.

Nevertheless, the respite is expected to be short-lived. From Wednesday (June 17), temperatures are forecasted to soar, veering into the 39-41°C range. An increase in wind speed up to 20 kmph is likely during afternoon and evening hours. By Thursday (June 18), thermometers could register anywhere between 40°C and 42°C, with a change in wind direction anticipated as Northwesterly winds take over at speeds of 15-20 kmph.

The IMD has also cautioned about persistent heatwave conditions through the weekend, with maximum temperatures forecasted to hover between 39°C and 41°C on June 19 and 20, while minimum temperatures will increase to 30-32°C by Saturday. Sunday (June 21) is expected to be particularly hot, with mercury levels potentially touching 42°C, accompanied by Westerly winds reaching speeds of 20-25 kmph.

Earlier weather disruptions on Monday were marked by heavy rains, dust storms, and thunderstorms, significantly affecting daily routines and transport across Delhi. The India Meteorological Department's red alert spurred anticipation of severe weather, disturbing normalcy.

The erratic weather stemmed from a western disturbance, causing widespread thunderstorms and intense winds in Delhi-NCR. This active weather spell, involving dust storms and rainfall, left many residents experiencing unpredictable conditions. (ANI)
