In a significant development, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla is set to mediate internal conflicts within the Trinamool Congress (TMC) by reviewing a merger request from a breakaway faction. The Speaker's decision follows a heated standoff between his office and the TMC leadership over procedural disagreements involving National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee.

According to sources, the Speaker's office contacted Banerjee via email on June 15 at 2 pm, requesting his presence by 4 pm the same day. At the time, Banerjee was reportedly unavailable as he was being interrogated by the Enforcement Directorate and had no access to his emails.

Trinamool Congress MP Kirti Azad communicated Banerjee's predicament to the Speaker's office, proposing an alternative meeting schedule. Meanwhile, the TMC leadership is locked in a legal and political battle to invalidate the merger request, as the rebel faction strives for recognition.
