Mortar attack kill four civilians in Zabul province of Afghanistan

A mortar attack has killed four civilians in Zabul province of Afghanistan on Monday, according to local media reports. A woman and three children were killed today when a mortar struck a house in Zabul's Shah Joy district. The mortar was reportedly fired by the militants.

In a separate incident, Afghan forces repulsed a coordinated Taliban attack on Nanai security post in Andar district of Ghazni province where at least six militants were reported to be killed. The security forces also killed a Taliban militant in the provincial capital of Logar province and confiscated an Ak-47 assault rifle.

Civilians continue to bear the brunt of conflict in Afghanistan. At least 3,812 civilians were killed or wounded in the first half of 2019, according to the United Nations. July saw the highest casualties than any month since May 2017.
