A North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) F-18 fighter jet was trying to approach the plane of Russian defense minister Sergei Shoigu over neutral waters in the Baltic Sea, according to the Russian news agency TASS. The agency reported that fighter jet was pushed away by one of two Su-27 fighters accompanying Shoigu's plane. The tweet made by the TASS read "The NATO fighter F-18 tried to get close to the board of Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu over the neutral waters of the Baltic Sea, but it was driven off by the Russian Su-27."

The plane carrying Shoigu was reportedly flying to Moscow from the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad which is surrounded from the south, east and northeast by NATO members Poland and Lithuania.

Sergei Shoigu went to Kaliningrad to take part in the stone-laying ceremony for the construction of a branch of the Nakhimov Naval School. In addition, he attended the contest of the Army International Games "Marine Landing" at the Khmelevka training ground.
