The head of Vietnam's Communist Party, Nguyen Phu Trong, on Monday attended a session of the National Assembly, according to a Reuters witness.

It is Trong's first pubic appearance since Dec 26, after concerns were raised over his health. The 79-year-old has been at the helm of the party since 2011 and the most powerful leader in Vietnam's one-party political system.
