Over 37,000 HIV/AIDS infected people are residing in Chipata district in Zambia. Eastern Province HIV/AIDS Coordination Adviser (PACA) has revealed that the district has a cumulative figure of 37,844 people living with the virus that causes AIDS.

Emmanuel Chama of PACA spoke on a radio programme dubbed 'Big Issue' one Feel Free Radio Station, where he disclosed 27,135 people are currently on antiretroviral treatment, Lusaka Times reported.

He further stressed the importance of taking treatment for the remaining 10,709 HIV infected people so that the viral load is suppressed and chance of disease transmission to other people comes down.

Recently, Chipata District Commissioner Kalunga Zulu disclosed that over 5,000 girls have been impregnated in the Q3 of 2018 in Chipata district alone in Eastern Province.
