China stocks closed higher on Monday, buoyed by growing hopes for further stimulus measures after the economy slowed more than expected in the second quarter. The slowdown comes amidst a prolonged property sector downturn and concerns about employment.
In contrast, Hong Kong shares fell following weaker-than-expected economic data and increased chances of Donald Trump winning the U.S. elections after an attempted assassination on the former president.
At the close of trade, the blue-chip CSI 300 Index gained 0.1% to 3,476.25 points, while the Shanghai Composite Index edged up 0.1% to 2,974.01 points. Hong Kong's benchmark Hang Seng Index, however, ended 1.5% down at 18,015.94 points.
