The Centre has implemented a range of initiatives through a 'whole of government' approach aimed at ensuring effective management and the availability of healthcare infrastructure during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Lok Sabha was informed on Friday.

Union Minister of State for Health Anupriya Patel outlined the key schemes launched by the ministry, such as the Pradhan Mantri - Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission. Launched in October 2021 with an outlay of Rs 64,180 crore, the scheme aims to fill critical gaps in health infrastructure over five years.

Emphasis is placed on developing capacities for surveillance, health emergency response, and preparedness for future pandemics, supported by the centrally-sponsored India COVID-19 Emergency Response packages (ECRP). These packages aim to provide support to health facilities across the country.
