Health Minister J P Nadda on Monday called on state governments to increase spending on healthcare infrastructure, while dismissing opposition claims of reduced funding under the PM-Ayushman Bharat Healthcare Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM).
During a Lok Sabha debate on health ministry grants, Nadda enumerated successes such as the rise in medical colleges and steps towards lowering out-of-pocket healthcare costs. He also emphasized early disease screenings as significant accomplishments.
In response to opposition concerns, Nadda cited under-spending by states, noting only Rs 1,806 crore of the Rs 4,200 crore budget was utilized last year, and promised more funds if existing allocations were fully spent. He underscored the Modi administration's commitment to prioritizing healthcare, achieving 1.9% of GDP allocation with a target of 2.5% by 2025.
