Resident Doctors Strike Over Colleague's Tragic Murder

Medical services at government facilities, including the largest state-run Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital, faced disruption as resident doctors initiated a strike in protest against the alleged rape and murder of a medic in Kolkata.

Emergency services, however, remain unaffected, the doctors stated. The Jaipur Association of Resident Doctors (JARD) announced the immediate suspension of non-essential services. They are demanding a transparent investigation, the resignation of responsible authorities, compensation for the victim's family, a central law for their protection, and improved workplace safety measures across all medical colleges nationwide.

JARD president Dr. Manohar Siyol confirmed that emergency services are still operational to ensure critically ill patients receive necessary care. Resident doctors have halted all elective and non-essential services, including outpatient departments (OPDs), operating theaters (OTs), and wards. SMS Hospital Superintendent Dr. Sushil Bhati said alternative arrangements have been made, with senior doctors stepping in to manage OPDs amidst decreased patient inflow due to incessant rainfall. The incident has ignited widespread protests, with junior doctors and healthcare workers demanding greater safety at their workplaces.
