Her statement came in the wake of the brutal rape and murder case of a woman doctor at a hospital in Kolkata, which has triggered nationwide protests.
Mayawati described the incident at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in West Bengal as ''very sad and shameful'', expressing her concerns on X.
She emphasized the need for awareness and precaution to ensure the safety and respect of women across various sectors, stressing the importance of sensitive arrangements and prompt action by the Central and state governments.
Protests by resident doctors paralyzed services at several government hospitals, demanding justice and security measures.
