Doctors Demand Security After Kolkata Incident

A doctors' association in Uttar Pradesh has urged Union Health Minister J P Nadda to enhance security at medical institutions, following the brutal rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata. Protests continued for a second day across the state, covering medical colleges from Greater Noida to Varanasi.

Despite the demonstrations, essential services remained operational, according to a senior office-bearer of the state Resident Doctors' Association (RDA). The association's president, Dr Hardeep Jogi, emphasized the need for stringent safety measures following the 'disturbing and horrific' murder of a postgraduate student at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata.

The protests, joined by medical institutions like Aligarh Muslim University and Banaras Hindu University, demand a comprehensive CBI investigation. RDA's letter criticized the gross failure in campus security and pressed for immediate actions, including police deployment and CCTV installations, to prevent further tragedies.
