Senior members of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) have expressed profound shock and sorrow concerning the alleged rape and murder of a woman doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. They asserted that it was the institution's moral responsibility to file a First Information Report (FIR).

IMA national president R V Asokan and secretary-general Anilkumar J Nayak, during their visit to the city, strongly criticized the way the parents of the deceased doctor were treated. "We have no words for the brutality. The institution should have taken ownership. They have the moral responsibility to file an FIR," Asokan said after visiting the hospital where the body was found on August 9.

The IMA members also engaged in discussions with the agitating doctors, who are observing a ceasework to protest against the incident, as well as with the parents of the deceased post-graduate trainee. On Tuesday, the Calcutta High Court ordered the transfer of the investigation from the Kolkata Police to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
