In a significant development, the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has issued notices to 51 doctors, accusing them of fostering a culture of intimidation and jeopardizing the democratic environment within the institution. The accused doctors are required to present themselves before an enquiry committee on September 11 to prove their innocence.
The hospital authority's notice has further restricted access to the campus for these 51 doctors unless they are specifically summoned by the enquiry committee. Their participation in college activities has also been put on hold, according to the notice signed by the hospital's principal. This list includes senior residents, house staff, interns, and professors.
The hospital has been in turmoil since August 9, following the tragic death of a postgraduate trainee doctor, who was reportedly raped and murdered on the premises. This incident has sparked protests among junior doctors, who are refusing to resume duties despite Supreme Court directions, until justice is served for the deceased.
