In Rwanda, Health Minister Sabin Nsanzimana announced that the Marburg virus outbreak is not spreading, thanks to effective containment measures. No new cases or deaths have been reported in the last six days, and all positive cases were traced back to known contacts of infected individuals.
The Rwandan government revealed that 1,146 contacts have been documented, and health authorities have confirmed 44 recoveries, with three active cases remaining. Health Minister Nsanzimana emphasized the importance of identifying and isolating contacts to control the virus, which shares many characteristics with Ebola.
Despite the outbreak's management under strong leadership, as praised by WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebereyesus, measures such as suspending school and hospital visits are in place to inhibit further spread. The US Embassy has advised remote working practices among staff due to the ongoing threat posed by this lethal virus with no authorized vaccine or treatment.
