Pope Francis has been hospitalized with a complex respiratory infection, prompting changes to upcoming Holy Year events, the Vatican announced on Tuesday. The 88-year-old pontiff has been ill for more than a week and was admitted to Rome's Gemelli hospital on February 14.

The Vatican stated that Saturday's scheduled papal audience has been cancelled due to the Pope's health condition. However, a Mass set for Sunday at St. Peter's Basilica will continue under the leadership of a senior Vatican official.

Doctors have adjusted the Pope's medication twice as he battles a polymicrobial respiratory infection. While a medical update was expected on Tuesday afternoon, the Vatican confirmed that Pope Francis is in good spirits, having eaten breakfast, signaling he is not on a respirator.
