Supreme Court to Address HIV Drug Shortage Concerns

The Supreme Court is poised to tackle urgent concerns over the alleged shortage of anti-retroviral therapy (ART) drugs essential for treating HIV patients across the nation. Scheduled for Monday, the plea is spearheaded by the 'Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS' and other stakeholders, reflecting growing worries in the healthcare community.
Despite assurances from the Centre last July about sufficient ARV drug supplies, discrepancies in the procurement process and drug quality still pose significant challenges. These issues could potentially hinder the government's efforts to provide free, lifelong ART to patients through the National AIDS Control Programme.
In response to the ongoing concerns, the Supreme Court has recommended a pivotal meeting involving the Centre, the National AIDS Control Organisation, and HIV/AIDS advocacy groups. This collaboration aims to resolve quality and supply-related issues to ensure uninterrupted care for those dependent on ART drugs.
