Karnataka Cracks Down on Plastic Use in Idli Preparation

The Karnataka Food Safety Department found 52 hotels using carcinogenic polythene sheets to prepare Idlis. Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao announced actions against such practices, emphasizing the health risks. Plastic will be banned in the food-making process to prevent cancer-causing contaminants in Idlis.

Karnataka's Food Safety Department has uncovered the use of hazardous polythene sheets in 52 hotels for making Idlis, according to Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao.

Minister Rao stressed that these practices are dangerous as the thin plastic sheets are carcinogenic. The government is committed to eradicating such practices in the hotel industry. Food Safety officers collected samples across 251 locations to identify offenders.

Rao confirmed that actions were being taken to stop the use of plastic in food preparation, asserting a strong message against the practice. He urged the public to report any further violations.
