In a groundbreaking medical achievement, doctors at Rajasthan Hospital in Jaipur have successfully executed India's first electrosurgical valve-in-valve mitral procedure. The procedure was performed on a 74-year-old woman from Srinagar, marking a significant advancement in cardiac treatment.
Having previously undergone open-heart surgery, the patient faced potential heart failure owing to a malfunctioning mitral valve. Conventional surgery was deemed too risky due to her age and fragile health, prompting her family to seek alternate treatment at the private hospital in Jaipur.
Under the guidance of Dr. Ravindra Singh Rao, Chairman of RHL Heart Centre, a minimally invasive electrosurgical technique was employed. Utilizing precision tools such as an electrified wire, the team successfully opened the malfunctioning valve and implanted a new one, all without the need for chest incisions. The procedure is colloquially known as the 'Batman procedure' due to the shape of the catheter's balloon.
