New Delhi [India], August 21: As World Senior Citizens’ Day draws attention to the elderly, Centre for Sight—India’s leading super-speciality eye hospital network—underscores the critical need for prompt intervention in age-related eye diseases. With over 140 million Indians over 60, nearly one in three experience visual impairment, challenging their independence and quality of life.
Globally, 80 percent of blindness is avoidable, yet myths and delayed care cost seniors their sight. Cataract, the chief cause of blindness in India, can be corrected with advanced bladeless, robotic laser surgery as a same-day procedure. Glaucoma, or the “silent thief of sight,” often progresses without noticeable symptoms, alongside the increasing prevalence of diabetic retinopathy and retinal diseases.
Centre for Sight's collaboration with fitness icon Milind Soman aims to raise awareness about the necessity of regular eye check-ups. Dr. Mahipal S. Sachdev, Chairman & Medical Director, insists no one should accept poor vision as inevitable with age. Modern technology enables elderly patients to regain clear vision, enhancing their ability to live actively. Regular eye check-ups are pivotal for elder care, beyond just medicines and nutrition.
