An employee of a private healthcare services company was apprehended on Tuesday in connection with the alleged rape of a contractual healthcare worker in a government hospital in West Bengal's Purba Medinipur district, according to police reports.

The National Commission of Women has announced its intention to dispatch a team to the Panskura hospital, the site of the alleged crime on Sunday night while the victim was on duty. NCW member Archana Majumdar confirmed the deployment from Kolkata.

The incident has prompted a police investigation following the victim's formal complaint against the accused, who was commissioned to enhance healthcare services at the hospital. The arrest has incited demands for heightened security measures, especially for female healthcare workers.
