Kerala Health Minister Veena George has categorically denied accusations that the state lost the opportunity to acquire an AIIMS facility due to incomplete land acquisition. In a social media post, she emphasized that the Centre's own communications proved Kerala had adhered to all required processes.
George referred to a 2024 letter from the Union government, confirming the receipt of Kerala's land-related documents and pushing for the Ministry of Finance to sanction the establishment of AIIMS in Kerala. She noted the absence of AIIMS in subsequent Union budgets, despite assurances from the Centre.
Her statements came in response to BJP State President Rajiv Chandrasekhar, who claimed land acquisition delays halted the project. George countered, stating that the BJP was misleading the public and reaffirmed Kerala's fulfillment of central requirements.
