In a tragic turn of events, a policeman was killed by unidentified gunmen who targeted a polio vaccination team he was shielding in northwest Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
The attack took place on Monday in Mirali tehsil of the North Waziristan district, an area bordering Afghanistan. Assailants escaped after the incident, leading police to launch an immediate search operation.
Despite recurrent threats to polio workers and their security escorts, especially in this region, Pakistan's government persists with polio eradication efforts, battling challenges such as security threats, vaccine hesitancy, and misinformation.
