CM Reddy orders heatwave preparedness as temperatures soar in Telangana

With mercury levels rising sharply across the state during the current summer, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday directed officials to take measures, including preparedness in hospitals and the setting up of drinking water distribution centres, to deal with the situation.
Reddy asked officials to ensure the availability of Oral Rehydration Salt (ORS) packets, drinking water, and uninterrupted power supply, a press release said.
He instructed Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao to continuously monitor the situation in the districts and issue necessary guidelines to district collectors to ensure public safety during the summer.
He also suggested establishing free drinking water centres in urban areas and appealed to people to avoid travelling during the afternoon hours.
According to the Telangana State Development Planning Society, Ailapur in Jagtial district recorded 45.9 degrees Celsius, followed by 45.8 degrees Celsius in Kattangoor (Nalgonda district) and Dasturabad (Nirmal district).
Several other places in the state also recorded temperatures well above 40 degrees Celsius.
In its forecast, the India Meteorological Department's Meteorological Centre here predicted a gradual rise in maximum temperatures by one to two degrees Celsius over the next two days.
