Three boys, aged 9 and 10, drowned while bathing in a pond in Hamirpur district, with their bodies later being declared dead at a local health centre.

Three boys drowned while bathing in a pond in Hamirpur district on Monday morning, police said.

According to police sources, Prabal Yadav, 10, Aditya Kushwaha, 9, and Bhola Kushwaha, 10, all residents of Khandeh village in the Maudaha area, had gone to bathe in the Ram Janaki temple pond around 10.30 am.

During bathing, the three children apparently moved into deep water and drowned, police said.

Villagers present near the pond immediately pulled the children out of the water and rushed them to the Maudaha Community Health Centre, where doctors declared them dead.

Additional Superintendent of Police Arvind Verma, who reached the spot, said the bodies had been sent for post-mortem and the matter is under investigation, he added.
